Rude, Racial Pollsters

My Polling Place, originally uploaded by Kim Shattuck.

I witnessed at least 3 different racial comments coming from a pair of idiotic pollsters in Burbank, CA.

I was there for a total of 10 minutes and the entire time I was there I witnessed and experienced this inappropriate joking.

It was from an old crusty white guy who was taking the finished ballots and a middle aged, cackling, hispanic guy wearing an Uncle Sam hat giving out little cheap flags to the voters.

This is what I heard from them while I was there:

To a nice hispanic man: "I don't think it counts if you are a Nicaraguan, just kidding"

To an elderly American lady: "It doesn't count since this lady is Chinese, hahaha."

Incidently she was caucasian...

To me, a caucasian woman: The Uncle Sam said "I can't give you this flag unless you are a real American...Are you?"

I gave him what I consider the hairy eyeball (a dirty look) to which he chuckled and said "Just kidding"

Um...it was very inappropriate and just so lame. Like a frat house kind of.

I don't know if I can even trust them to not make paper airplanes out of all of our ballots.

Where can I turn these goons in?

I've been waiting for this voting day for 8 long years and I didn't appreciate this at all.

Yes, but as we know now Obama won, so those "real American" rednecks can all kiss our asses.

Take that, neocons!

People can wind up with their butts in a sling for comments like that--at the VERY least. Let's see--you show up at a polling station and somebody wants to know if you're a REAL American? That just ain't right.

Hey Miss Kim Shattuck that sucks. I grew up a little punk rawk japanese kid in a big western america and I know what racial ignorance feels like. Please post a nicer topic blog so I can tell you what a huge fan I've been of yours since I was 15. I've cried to your music and I just wanted to say thanks. I myself make music now and have found a way to repay you for your great music, by making some of similar quality. Anyway, thanks. mr. kiyoshi
